This month we celebrated the incredible impact our nurses make every day for California’s intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) community.

Registered Nurse Katee Ortega shared: “I take pride in being someone others can rely on in uncertain moments.”

Katee works at one of our STAR homes, which are state-run homes that provide short-term crisis support for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.  Her commitment is reflected across our nursing teams as they:

  • Strengthen communications between providers, caregivers, and clinical teams
  • Support consistent follow-up care and continuity of services
  • Help identify and close gaps in care
  • Provide guidance, training, and support that improves quality of life

In recognition of Nurses Week, celebrated May 6 -12, we shared on Facebook reflections from a few of the STAR Home nurses about what drives their work.  Their messages highlighted the importance of trust, dignity, preventive care, and strong communication across support teams.

These nurse consultants work directly with residential service providers and regional centers to strengthen care and support for Californians with IDD.

Watch Melanie, Nohely and MaryBette share what they value most in their work.

Thank you to all our nurses for the knowledge, dedication, and heart you bring to this work every day!
